Fluf

As the saying goes, the devil is in the details. Fluf designers Nathalie and Terra say it is especially true for style, originality and great design. In the summer of 2005, their shared vision to elevate one of the unsung details of the home, the lowly pillow, led them to create FLUF. They started making pillows and only pillows. Lots of them. People thought they were slightly nuts. They made pillows for every type of interior, from über-modern, stark minimalism to retro 80s post-punk angst, to lush velvety Oscar Wilde interiors, relaxed country livin’ and shabby urban chic. Before long, people totally got it and joined the pillow revolution. Pillows began to assert themselves. They stood up to ottomans, couches and chairs. They started to own their rooms. So the designers started seeking out fresh and original fabrics that were manufactured using sustainable materials and practices, but their searches came up largely empty.
So they went ahead and created them themselves. In the spring of 2007, they launched their first fabric print, FLY. They have since added several new prints, and the entire fabric line is hand-printed in small runs on chemical-free hemp and organic cotton, using water-based, biodegradable dyes.
‘FLUF’? WHAT’S WITH THE SPELLING?
Nathalie and Terra get asked this question a lot. they say "yes, it is pronounced like “fluff”, not “floof” or “flüf”. We just like it this way. It is lighter and fresher; it gets the job done with less cumbersome lettering. It’s clean and simple: FLUF".
The designers have four kids between them. Before starting FLUF, Nathalie Butterfield practiced law and Terra Kushner worked as a commercial designer. They have lots of FLUF in their own homes, but mostly spectacular malfunctions that never made it to market.
They hope you enjoy your FLUF products as much as they enjoy making them. We're sure that you will!
