Our Kindness Matters Program

In addition to providing our customers with unique, ethical gifts of outstanding quality, Kindred Gifts is also committed to offering a helping hand where possible to those in the world that could use it (and there are many). To this end, we have launched our giving program, called Kindness Matters

The integral part of Kindness Matters is that we donate a percentage of our annual revenue to charity, as well as offering our customers the opportunity to donate a small amount (between $.50 and $1.50) to our charity every time they shop with us. This means that a good chunk of what you might spend on our products goes directly to charity.

There are an amazing number of wonderful charities all around the world that are doing fantastic work in so many fields, so it was a difficult choice to make, but we have done our due diligence and spent countless hours researching and investigating locally and abroad to find the charities that we want to support for the long term. The charities that we choose to support - apart from doing wonderful work to help their communties and the world at large - are also very vigilant about directing the highest percentage possible of the donations they receive directly to the projects that they support. We believe that it is important to know where our money (and our customers' money) is going, so that the donations made will have the most beneficial impact possible.

Please read on to find out more about the charities we proudly support.

Our Charities:

Kindred Gifts is pleased to partner with Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors as our major charity.

Steve and Terri Irwin established Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide in 2002. The Irwins became patrons of the charity and made Australia Zoo the Major Sponsor, committing to cover all administrative costs. This is still the same today, allowing Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors to apply 100% of all public donations received directly to the conservation and preservation of wildlife. Terri remains involved as the patron and significant supporter and advisor, but the charity now operates independently.

Wildlife Warriors was established by Steve and Terri as a way to include and involve other caring people to support the protection of injured, threatened or endangered wildlife – from the individual animal to an entire species.

Wildlife Warriors Worldwide's Objectives:

To protect and enhance the natural environment

To provide information and education to the public and raise awareness of wildlife issues

To undertake biological research

To research, recommend and act in the protection of threatened or endangered species.

To enter into cooperative arrangements with like-minded organisations

Their Vision:

That people, wildlife and habitat survive and prosper without being detrimental to the existence of each other.

Their Mission:

To be the most effective wildlife conservation organisation in the world through the delivery of outstanding outcome-based programs and projects, and inclusive of humanity.

Their projects:

Some of the many projects that Wildlife Warriors supports includes:

The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital - the world's largest wildlife hospital

Australian Wildlife Conservation - includes the Ecological Services Unit; Safe Habitats; and education campaigns

Asian Wildlife Conservation - includes tiger conservation in Sumatra; elephant conservation in Sumatra and Cambodia; and orangutan conservation in Sumatra

African Wildlife Conservation - working in partnership with the De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Trust, and with Cheetah Outreach, in South Africa

Whale Conservation - campaigns to stop whaling; and tagging and tracking research projects

Research - the International Crocodile Rescue; as well as research in the area of koala disease

This fantastic organisation is based on the very ideals of Steve Irwin who epitomised the Wildlife Warrior - he was the original and he created the term. The Wildlife Warriors share his dream of conservation and strive to make it a reality.

You can do your bit too and feel great by doing so! Every purchase made here at Kindred Gifts donates a percentage of the total sale (not just the profit) to this worthwhile charity. We will show you exactly how much of your purchase goes to charity at the checkout, and you can even donate more if you choose. You probably will too because, as we know, it feels great to do good!

Other worthy causes:

We also sponsor charitable causes outside of our major charity that we feel need our support too.

Once such charity is Movember, a month long campaign to raise awareness regarding men's health by growing and keeping a moustache for the entire month.

Pete, our Chief of Operations here at Kindred Gifts, was seen sporting a lovely 1970's moustache for this very worthy cause throughout November 2010. Kindred Gifts was a proud sponsor of his efforts. You can view his efforts by clicking here: http://au.movember.com/mospace/1190838
